4 ways to bring luxury into your bathroom

By Rikki Cook

Whether we’re getting ready for the day ahead or winding down, the bathroom is an area of the house we spend a lot of time in. Despite this, it tends to be one of the more neglected rooms in the house when it comes to interior decorating. It’s time to up the comfort factor – here are our tips to achieving a luxurious, relaxing bathroom without committing to a total room renovation.

1. Invest in a rug

For centuries, mosaic tiles have been the epitome of luxury and are a common theme across architecturally admired buildings all over the world. Unfortunately, intricately designed tiling is expensive and hard to change once installed. Forget the tile in favour of a patterned mat – a large, geometrically patterned rug across your bathroom floor is a bold and demanding feature that can manipulate the tone of the entire bathroom. For bathrooms which already have coloured tiling, try selecting a rug with similar colours to tie the room together.

2. Create a space to sit

The bathroom should be a place of relaxation, so bringing in a bench is the perfect way to provide an extra spot for you to sit and pamper yourself. If your bathroom is big enough to allow it, a bench against a wall or near the bath can instantly transform how you use the room and the amount of time spent there. A wooden bench is easily cleaned in the bathroom, and if you have coloured accents throughout the room, pull these tones into your bench decor.

3. Bring nature into the room

Plants are a surefire way to make a room feel more relaxed and comforting. Blending bamboo fixtures and shelves with leafy green fronds can turn the bathroom into your own personal oasis. Being surrounded by nature invokes feelings of serenity and relaxation, which is the ideal mood for a bathroom.

4. Add an oil diffuser

Over time, the word luxury has become synonymous with relaxation, so it’s important to approach this using all your senses – including smell. A diffuser with sweet smelling oils is an inexpensive way to add luxury to your bathroom, and it’s easily changeable depending on your preferences. By having a diffuser, you’ll be met with a calming scent whenever you enter the room. This will be further dispersed by hot steam whenever you shower for immediate bathroom bliss.
